Nicole Holofcener’s dialogue has that lived-in snap where jokes land because they’re true, and the film’s warmth comes from how gently it watches people second-guess themselves without turning them into punchlines. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is wonderfully open and specific as a woman staring down an empty nest, and James Gandolfini meets her with a disarming sweetness that makes their chemistry feel earned, not manufactured. It’s talky and unflashy by design, more a glass-of-wine-and-hard-truths kind of evening than a grand romantic sweep, but if you want a smart, funny, grown-up love story with real vulnerability, this one sneaks up on you and stays.

Enough Said is aiming for a grown-up, low-stakes romantic comedy about midlife insecurity and the messy ways we let other people’s opinions poison something good. Nicole Holofcener keeps it small and conversational, which will feel refreshingly real if you like character-driven stories, but it can also read as modest to the point of “is this it?” if you want bigger laughs, higher drama, or a more sweeping romance. The central complication is clever, yet the relationship may strike you as slightly implausible, and the script’s repeated attention to Albert’s weight and habits can feel uncomfortable rather than insightful. Still, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini are warm and watchable, so if you’re in the mood for gentle, slightly melancholy realism, it’s worth your time—just don’t expect fireworks.
