Cheap Thrills is the kind of dark little gem that grabs you by the collar and dares you to laugh while your conscience squirms, turning a simple night into a razor-tight pressure cooker of temptation and consequence. It’s wickedly funny without losing its human sting, propelled by sharp writing and performances that make every choice feel uncomfortably plausible. The vibe is lean, nasty, and compulsively watchable—part social satire, part thriller, always edging toward “surely they won’t” and then pushing further. If you don’t enjoy pitch-black humor or stories that probe how far people will go when money is on the table, it may be too mean-spirited for your taste, but if you’re on the fence, this one earns your attention by being as intelligent as it is intense.

Cheap Thrills is aiming for a darkly funny, escalating morality tale about desperation and how easily people can be bought when the rent is due. The problem is that the setup telegraphs where it’s headed, so the “shocking” turns can feel more like a checklist than a descent, and the characters are intentionally hard to like, which makes it tough to stay emotionally invested. If you’re sensitive to tasteless, mean-spirited humor or you hate movies that flirt with “how far will they go?” sadism, this may read as low-budget cruelty rather than sharp satire. That said, it’s brisk, tightly contained, and the performances sell the tension well enough that fans of grim, nasty little thrillers might still get what they came for.
