Delivery Man (2013)

Delivery Man takes a premise that could’ve been a one-note gag and turns it into a surprisingly warm, big-hearted comedy about what it means to matter to other people. Vince Vaughn dials down the motor-mouthed shtick and finds a gentler, more human rhythm, letting the laughs come from awkward sincerity rather than cruelty, while Cobie Smulders grounds the story with clear-eyed affection and Chris Pratt pops in with the kind of loose, lovable energy he does best. The vibe is sweet and slightly messy—part feel-good crowd-pleaser, part quiet midlife wake-up call—with enough raunchy talk and adult themes to keep it from being a family movie. Delivery Man is clearly aiming for a big-hearted, oddball “man-child grows up” comedy that sneaks in some earnest thoughts about fatherhood and responsibility.
