If you’re expecting a tight mystery or a clean emotional arc, this may test your patience, even with Richard Linklater’s easygoing touch and a strong supporting cast. But if you’re happy to follow a messy, character-driven ride with some sharp moments and an offbeat lead performance, it’s still a decent way to spend an evening.
