Unfinished Business (2015)
A hard-working small business owner and his two associates travel to Europe to close the most important deal of their lives. But what began as a routine business trip goes off the rails in every imaginable – and unimaginable – way, including unplanned stops at a massive sex fetish event and a global economic summit.
What people think about Unfinished Business
Unfinished Business is the kind of raunchy road-trip comedy that sneaks up on you with an unexpectedly human pulse: beneath the jet-lagged chaos and outrageous detours is a story about pride, hustle, and wanting your life to finally add up. Vince Vaughn leans into his fast-talking everyman energy, while Dave Franco’s off-kilter innocence keeps the misadventures buoyant, and the movie’s best set pieces escalate with a “how can this possibly get worse?” rhythm that’s hard not to enjoy. The tone is proudly R-rated—often gleefully crude, sometimes strangely sweet—and when it hits the right balance, it lands real laughs without losing its scrappy underdog heart. It’s not for everyone (the explicit sexual content is very much the point), but if you can roll with the vulgarity, you’ll find a surprisingly charming comedy hiding inside the bad decisions.
Unfinished Business is clearly aiming for a raunchy, escalating “business trip from hell” comedy with a bit of heart about a dad trying to prove himself, and on paper Vince Vaughn should be right at home. The problem is it plays like a string of shock-gags and detours that don’t build, so the pacing drags and the humor often feels loud rather than clever. There are a few mildly amusing moments and the cast tries, but the movie’s unfocused writing and uneven performances make it hard to care about the deal or the characters. If you’re not specifically in the mood for very explicit R-rated sexual comedy and crude set pieces, this one will likely feel like a long flight with no payoff.
