PK (2014)
A stranger in the city asks questions no one has asked before. Known only by his initials, the man's innocent questions and childlike curiosity take him on a journey of love, laughter and letting go.
What people think about PK
PK is that rare crowd-pleaser that smuggles big, uncomfortable questions into a movie that feels breezy, humane, and genuinely funny. Rajkumar Hirani wraps a science-fiction premise in the warmth of a modern fable, letting Aamir Khan’s wide-eyed performance turn curiosity into a kind of moral superpower—disarming, unpredictable, and oddly moving. The film’s satire aims at hypocrisy and exploitation rather than faith itself, so even when it provokes, it does so with compassion and an inviting sense of play. It’s long and occasionally broad in its comedy, and a few scenes touch on mature themes and violence, but if you’re open to a heartfelt entertainer that leaves you laughing and thinking, it’s an easy recommendation.
PK is clearly trying to use a wide-eyed alien outsider to poke holes in superstition and religious profiteering, and when it sticks to that satirical core it can be sharp, funny, and oddly sweet. The problem is it often can’t resist going full mainstream Bollywood, padding the message with a big romance track, songs, and a lot of plotting that sprawls until the point starts to feel repeated rather than deepened. Some tonal shifts also land clumsily, with heavier moments (including a terrorist attack) sitting beside broad comedy in a way that may not work for everyone. If you like message-driven crowd-pleasers and don’t mind a long, meandering package to get there, it’s worth your time; if you want tight sci-fi storytelling or subtle satire, this may test your patience.
