A documentary about conspiracy theories takes a horrific turn after the filmmakers uncover an ancient and dangerous secret society.
What people think about The Conspiracy
The Conspiracy is one of those rare found-footage thrillers that doesn’t just shake the camera and hope you’ll jump—it earns your dread by sounding uncomfortably plausible, like a late-night rabbit hole that suddenly starts looking back at you. Christopher MacBride builds tension with the patient intelligence of a real documentary, letting small details, uneasy interviews, and creeping coincidences tighten into a paranoid vise. The vibe is chilly and investigative rather than gory, powered by atmosphere and the slow realization that curiosity can be a kind of invitation. If you don’t enjoy conspiracy talk or the rough-edged realism of faux-doc filmmaking, it may not be your style, but if you want a smart, original horror-thriller that gets under your skin without relying on cheap tricks, this one is a terrific bet.
The Conspiracy is clearly aiming for a smart, slow-burn found-footage thriller that turns internet paranoia into something plausibly terrifying, and for a while it pulls that off with a convincingly scrappy documentary vibe. The problem is that as it ramps up, the “this could be real” credibility starts to wobble and the story leans into beats you can see coming, which makes the tension feel a bit manufactured rather than inevitable. The climax and epilogue, in particular, don’t deliver the punch the setup promises, so you may finish it thinking the film had a stronger idea than execution. If you like conspiracy rabbit holes and can forgive a shaky payoff for a creepy atmosphere, it’s worth a look; if you need tight logic and a truly satisfying ending, this probably isn’t your film.
