Minions (2015)

Minions is pure, fizzy cartoon mayhem—a movie that commits so completely to visual comedy and anarchic silliness that it becomes oddly irresistible, like watching a perfectly choreographed food fight. Set against a swinging ’60s backdrop, it bounces from one bright, inventive gag to the next, letting the Minions’ rubbery logic and babbling charm do the heavy lifting while Sandra Bullock’s Scarlet Overkill adds a deliciously theatrical villainy. The tone is loud, fast, and cheerfully absurd, with action that plays like slapstick ballet and jokes that land even when the “dialogue” is mostly gibberish. If you want subtle storytelling, look elsewhere, but if you’re in the mood for a high-energy, family-friendly laugh machine that never stops moving, this one delivers.

Minions is clearly trying to turn the franchise’s chaotic sidekicks into full-on leads, building a globe-trotting villain caper around nonstop slapstick and bright, candy-colored energy. The problem is that the movie often feels like a string of sketches held together by a thin plot, so if you need a strong story, real character depth, or a calmer tone, this can get shrill and exhausting fast. A lot of the humor is “rude-but-PG” and very physical, with cartoon peril and some surprisingly pointed gags that may not land for every family. If you already love Minion chaos in small doses, you’ll probably enjoy the visual inventiveness and Sandra Bullock’s villain flair; if you find them grating, 90 minutes of it will feel like a long sit.
