It’s less about big plot fireworks than the small, recognizable moments that make family gatherings both exhausting and strangely sacred, with sentiment that earns its way in by the end. If you want a pristine, laugh-a-minute holiday romp, this may feel shaggy and gentle, but if you’re in the mood for a heartfelt seasonal hug with a few sharp edges, it’s an easy one to welcome into your December rotation.

Love the Coopers is clearly aiming for that cozy, chaotic Christmas ensemble where a messy family night magically turns into a warm group hug, and you can feel the movie straining to deliver holiday “meaning” in every scene. The problem is it plays like a bunch of sitcom subplots stapled together, bouncing between comedy and drama so awkwardly that the emotional beats feel manufactured and the jokes often land with a thud.
