Big Hero 6 (2014)

Big Hero 6 feels like a warm hug delivered at rocket speed: a dazzling, big-hearted adventure that pairs cutting-edge animation with a surprisingly tender soul. At its center is Baymax, an inflatable healthcare robot whose gentle sincerity becomes both the movie’s funniest running gag and its emotional anchor, especially as he bonds with young prodigy Hiro. The action pops with comic-book energy, but it’s the film’s compassion—its willingness to let humor and grief share the same space—that gives it real lift. If you prefer your family films strictly light and fluffy, a few moments may hit harder than expected, but that’s exactly why this one lingers after the credits.

Big Hero 6 is clearly aiming to be a crowd-pleasing, big-hearted superhero origin story for families, powered by the sweet bond between Hiro and the wonderfully huggable Baymax. The problem is it plays things very safe: the plot hits familiar beats, the villain doesn’t get much depth, and the supporting “team” can feel more like cool designs than fully formed characters. If you’re looking for a bold, surprising animated adventure with sharp world-building and memorable antagonists, this may come off as slick but disposable.
