Run All Night (2015)

Run All Night takes the familiar “one bad night” crime setup and charges it with real bruised emotion, turning a propulsive chase through neon-soaked New York into a reckoning about loyalty, fatherhood, and the debts we never quite outrun. Liam Neeson is terrific as a worn-down hitter trying to claw back a shred of decency, while Ed Harris brings a chilling, almost mournful menace that makes every conversation feel like it could turn lethal. Director Jaume Collet-Serra keeps the pace tight and the action cleanly staged, but what lingers is the sense of regret underneath the gunfire—these aren’t just bodies dropping, they’re choices closing in. It is grim and violent, and if you want a light, quippy action ride this won’t be your flavor, but if you’re in the mood for a tough, well-acted thriller with momentum and heart, it delivers.

If you want a lean, surprising crime thriller, this may feel workmanlike and predictable—but if you’re fine with a competent, violent, R-rated dad-and-son reckoning wrapped in standard mob-movie mechanics, it does the job.
