An American backpacker gets involved with a ring of drug smugglers as their driver, and winds up on the run from his employers across Cologne’s autobahns.

Explained

What people think about Collide

Collide is the kind of lean, breathless action-thriller that earns its title, using Cologne’s streets and the Autobahn like a playground for high-speed desperation rather than anonymous backlot scenery. Eran Creevy keeps the pacing tight and the momentum constant, while Nicholas Hoult sells the frantic, cornered energy of a guy making one bad choice for one understandable reason, with Felicity Jones grounding the stakes in something human. The real guilty pleasure is watching Anthony Hopkins (and a deliciously unhinged Ben Kingsley) chew through their scenes with the relish of actors who know exactly what movie they’re in. If you need intricate plotting or subtle realism, this may not be your ride—but if you want a slick, propulsive chase film with bite, humor, and real location flavor, it’s an easy recommendation.
