Theater Camp is a love letter to the beautiful chaos of making art with too little money and too much feeling, and it captures that world with the kind of affectionate precision that makes every joke land twice. Shot in a mockumentary style that feels loose and lived-in, it lets its eccentric staff and intensely earnest kids shine, building comedy out of personality rather than punchlines—and then sneaking in genuine warmth when you least expect it. Ben Platt and Molly Gordon are hilariously committed as the kind of theater adults who speak fluent inspiration and panic, while the original songs are catchy in that “why is this actually good?” way. If you’ve ever loved (or survived) theater culture, it’s practically catnip; if you haven’t, the humor is still welcoming, though the in-jokes and campy energy might not be for everyone.
