Explained

What people think about 009 Re:Cyborg

009 Re:Cyborg is the kind of animated sci-fi that aims higher than mere spectacle, marrying sleek, modern cityscapes with a haunting sense that something unseen is steering the world off course. Kenji Kamiyama stages the action with real propulsion—speed, weight, and scale—yet he keeps circling back to the more interesting question: what does it mean to have power built into your body, and who gets to decide what it’s for? The film’s imagery can be startlingly beautiful, sometimes even mythic, giving its set pieces the feeling of big ideas colliding with big machines. It won’t be for everyone—its philosophical bent can feel dense and dreamlike—but if you like your cyberpunk with both adrenaline and ambition, it’s a bracing watch.
