Sleepless (2017)
Undercover Las Vegas police officer Vincent Downs, who has a lot of enemies, is caught in a high stakes web of corrupt cops and the mob-controlled casino underground. When a heist goes wrong, a crew of homicidal gangsters kidnap Downs’ teenage son T. In one sleepless night, Downs will have to rescue his son, evade an internal affairs investigation, and bring the kidnappers to justice.
What people think about Sleepless
Sleepless is the kind of lean, clock-ticking thriller that grabs you by the collar and drags you through neon-lit Las Vegas without ever letting you catch your breath. It thrives on momentum: a single bad night spirals into a pressure-cooker of dirty cops, desperate choices, and bruising action that’s staged to keep your pulse up even when the story keeps things simple. Jamie Foxx sells the exhaustion and determination of a man running on adrenaline and fear, and the movie’s best sequences have that satisfyingly taut, in-the-moment snap of a solid B-movie done with conviction. It’s not for viewers craving deep character study or intricate twists, but if you want a propulsive, entertaining crime ride that knows exactly what lane it’s in, it’s a very decent way to spend 90 minutes.
Sleepless is clearly aiming for a gritty, one-night pressure-cooker thriller where a desperate cop races through Las Vegas to save his kid and outrun both gangsters and Internal Affairs. The problem is it plays like a checklist of familiar crime-movie beats, with twists you can see coming and action that’s serviceable but rarely exciting enough to justify the nonstop urgency. Jamie Foxx brings commitment and there are a few tense moments in the casino underworld setting, but the film doesn’t do much with its cast or premise beyond the basics. If you’re craving a fresh, clever thriller, you’ll likely leave cold; if you just want a straightforward, brain-off chase with a ticking clock, it might do the job for one night.
