Director Sophon Sakdaphisit gives the film a sleek, modern chill: the housing estate looks aspirational and clean, which only makes the creeping dread and sudden violence feel more invasive, like a stain that won’t scrub out. What really hooks you, though, is the emotional weight—performances and family dynamics strong enough that you’re not just waiting for the next scare, you’re worrying about what fear is doing to people who still love each other. If you want a Thai horror film with craftsmanship and atmosphere that lingers, and you don’t mind your scares coming tangled with bleak social and domestic drama, Laddaland is an unnervingly satisfying choice.

Laddaland wants to mash up a haunted-house shocker with a grounded family drama about money stress, pride, and relationships cracking under pressure, and that ambition is genuinely its best asset. The setup is creepy and the neighborhood vibe is strong, with a few sequences that land thanks to atmosphere and committed performances. But the film’s scares can be undercut by rough-looking CGI and some uneven execution, and by the time it reaches for bigger emotional and supernatural payoffs, the story can feel thinner than it thinks it is.
