Kite (2014)

Kite is the kind of lean, neon-streaked revenge thriller that doesn’t pretend to be gentle: it dives headfirst into a grimy dystopia and commits to its pulpy, hard-edged mood with real visual style. Ralph Ziman stages the action with crisp technical polish and a propulsive rhythm, giving the film a slick, comic-book intensity as Sawa cuts a bloody path through a world that feels rotten to the core. India Eisley brings a haunted, steely presence to the role, and Samuel L. Jackson adds a familiar jolt of authority that helps anchor the mayhem. Fair warning: it’s extremely violent and not for the squeamish, but if you’re on the fence and want a dark, watchable action-drama that looks better than its reputation and moves like a bullet, this one earns a late-night slot.
