Non-Stop (2014)
Bill Marks is a Federal Air Marshall for whom every day is the same until this one. On this plane ride, he starts receiving text messages from someone claiming to be on the flight and threatening to kill passengers. In a race against the clock, he must identify and stop the killer to save everyone on board.
What people think about Non-Stop
Non-Stop is the kind of contained thriller that reminds you how electric a single location can be when the filmmaking knows exactly where to squeeze: every aisle becomes a suspect lineup, every glance a possible tell, every ding of a message a jolt to the nerves. Jaume Collet-Serra keeps the tension aloft with clean, propulsive pacing and a knack for turning ordinary airplane routines into pressure-cooker set pieces, while Liam Neeson anchors the chaos with a bruised, believable intensity that makes you lean in even when the odds feel impossible. The vibe is sleek and pulpy in the best way—smart enough to keep you guessing, muscular enough to keep you gripping the armrest—helped along by strong supporting turns that add texture instead of clutter. If you’re allergic to high-concept “what if?” premises, you may roll your eyes once or twice, but if you want a tight, crowd-pleasing mystery ride that delivers exactly what it promises, this flight is worth boarding.
Non-Stop is trying to be a tight, real-time “who on this plane is the killer?” thriller, with Liam Neeson doing his grizzled-pro-under-pressure routine and a claustrophobic setting that should keep the tension high. The problem is the script leans hard on convenient coincidences and twisty misdirection, so if you’re the kind of viewer who needs the mystery to hold up logically, you’ll start rolling your eyes long before the credits. The action is punchy and the pace rarely drags, but the later reveals get increasingly preposterous and ask you to ignore a lot of “wait, how would that even work?” details. If you can treat it as a loud, slightly silly airborne rollercoaster, you’ll have a decent time; if you want a smart, airtight thriller, this probably isn’t your flight.
