Faithfully Yours (2022)
Using each other as alibis, two friends sneak off to indulge in secret affairs — but their elaborate web of lies unravels when one of them goes missing.
What people think about Faithfully Yours
Faithfully Yours is the kind of sleek, adult thriller that grabs you by the collar with one bad decision and then tightens the knot, turning a seemingly controlled weekend of secrets into a nerve-rattling spiral of suspicion. André van Duren directs with a cool, coastal unease—sunlit streets and quiet rooms that somehow feel like traps—while Bracha van Doesburgh anchors the film with a performance that’s sharp, vulnerable, and steadily more desperate as the lies stop being convenient and start being dangerous. The movie’s real pleasure is how it sustains tension scene by scene, letting glances, text messages, and missing time feel as ominous as any weapon, all while keeping the mystery moving at a brisk, entertaining clip. It won’t be for everyone if you dislike stories steeped in infidelity and morally messy choices, but if you want a twisty, well-acted suspense ride that keeps you guessing without feeling gimmicky, this one earns your attention.
Faithfully Yours wants to be a sleek, modern “lies-catch-up-to-you” thriller, mixing marital betrayal with a missing-person mystery and a ticking-clock sense of paranoia. The problem is it often plays like a checklist of familiar genre beats—secrets, surveillance, late twists—without the sharp pacing or psychological bite to make them feel earned, so stretches can feel oddly dull for a story this messy. When the plot finally starts throwing curveballs, they arrive so late (and lean so hard into contrivance) that you may feel more manipulated than surprised, especially if you’re allergic to characters making baffling choices. If you’re in it for a glossy Dutch setting, solid performances, and a pulpy, soapy ride, you might have fun—but if you want a genuinely clever mystery or a tightly constructed thriller, this probably isn’t your best use of an evening.
