After several failed attempts, they abduct rich businessman Victor Kershaw and convince him to sign over all his assets to them. But when Kershaw makes it out alive, authorities are reluctant to believe his story.

Explained

What people think about Pain & Gain

Pain & Gain is Michael Bay at his most wickedly self-aware: a sun-bleached Miami fever dream where the American-dream hustle gets pumped full of steroids and turns into something both hilarious and queasy. Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie commit hard to the madness, playing would-be winners whose bravado and desperation create a comic rhythm that keeps tightening even as the situation spins further out of control. The movie’s vibe is loud, fast, and gleefully trashy, but there’s a surprising bite underneath—an uncomfortable fascination with how easily motivation-talk and macho fantasy can curdle into criminal stupidity. Fair warning: it’s vulgar, violent, and often morally abrasive, but if you can handle the grime, it’s one of Bay’s most entertaining swings and a crime comedy that actually has teeth.
