Father Figures (2017)

Father Figures is the kind of road-trip comedy that sneaks up on you: it starts with a ridiculous, tabloid-ready premise and then wins you over with the easy, lived-in chemistry between Owen Wilson and Ed Helms as brothers who bicker, bond, and stumble their way toward something like adulthood. Director Lawrence Sher keeps the vibe light and amiably goofy, but there’s a sincere undercurrent about family—how it’s built, not just inherited—that gives the jokes a little extra lift. It’s not the sharpest or most sophisticated comedy, and the R-rated crudeness and sexual humor won’t be for everyone, but if you’re in the mood for something broadly funny with a surprisingly warm heart, this one is eager to please. By the time the credits roll, you may not remember every gag, but you’ll remember how likable it feels spending time with these two.
