American Mary (2013)

American Mary is clearly aiming for a slick, feminist-leaning revenge tale wrapped in the niche world of extreme body modification, and it does have a grimy, distinctive atmosphere plus a committed lead performance from Katharine Isabelle. The problem is that after a strong, provocative setup, the story starts to wander—ideas get introduced faster than they’re explored, and the pacing turns uneven as it shifts between exploitation shock and character drama.
