The film’s greatest trick is how it treats engineering like artistry and competition like character: the roar of the engines is thrilling, but the human stakes are what keep you leaning forward. If you’re allergic to dad-movie earnestness or long runtimes, it may not be your flavor—but if you want a big, expertly made true-story drama that earns its adrenaline, this one delivers.

But if you’re allergic to familiar beats—corporate suits as villains, inspirational speeches, and emotional crescendos you can see coming a lap ahead—this may feel predictable and a bit melodramatic. Some of the racing can also look slightly overcooked or clunky in places, and at nearly two and a half hours it can start to feel like it’s revving in the same gear. Still, Damon and especially Bale bring enough grit and charm to make it worthwhile if you want a glossy, mainstream “triumph against the system” story more than a nuanced historical deep dive.
