Blind (2017)

Blind has the rare confidence of an adult romance that isn’t chasing cute meet-cutes or easy answers, but the bruised, complicated ways people try to start over. Michael Mailer gives Alec Baldwin and Demi Moore room to do the kind of lived-in acting that feels less like “movie passion” and more like two lonely adults recognizing something true in each other, with a quiet sensuality and genuine heat that carries the film. The tone is intimate and reflective—more late-night conversations and moral gray areas than melodrama—anchored by the tactile details of a writer relearning how to inhabit the world after loss. It’s not for viewers who want a brisk plot or tidy catharsis, but if you’re in the mood for a mature, watchable drama about desire, guilt, and second chances, it’s an easy one to lean into.

Blind is clearly aiming for a tender, grown-up romance about grief, guilt, and two damaged people finding a lifeline in each other, and on paper that’s a solid setup. The problem is it often plays like a prepackaged melodrama: familiar beats, heavy-handed dialogue, and a romance that wants to feel profound but can come off self-serious and strangely unearned. If you’re allergic to clichés, contrived coincidences, or “prestige” sadness that doesn’t actually dig very deep, this will likely test your patience. That said, Baldwin and Moore bring enough polish to make parts watchable, and if you’re in the mood for a soft-focus, adult affair story without demanding realism, you may still get something out of it.
