Ghost Graduation (2012)

Ghost Graduation is the kind of high-concept comedy that sounds like a gimmick until it wins you over with genuine warmth: a down-on-his-luck teacher who can see the dead gets stuck running remedial class for a handful of mischievous teenage ghosts. Javier Ruiz Caldera blends 1980s-style supernatural hijinks with a surprisingly sweet heart, letting the laughs come from character and chaos rather than smug winks at the audience. Raúl Arévalo gives the hero a lovable, frazzled humanity, and the film’s playful energy keeps the afterlife feeling less like horror and more like a rowdy, oddly touching second chance. It is raunchier than its premise suggests (R-rated for a reason), but if you’re in the mood for a charming, feel-good ghost romp with real laugh-out-loud moments, this one earns its diploma.

The problem is it leans heavily on broad gags and sitcom-level chaos, so if you want clever paranormal comedy or tight storytelling, you may find it noisy, repetitive, and a bit all-over-the-place. Some of the humor is dated and fairly crude (it is R-rated for a reason), which can undercut the sweeter, more heartfelt moments it’s reaching for. Still, the cast has likable energy and there are a few surprisingly sincere beats, so it works best if you’re in the mood for a goofy, sentimental ride rather than anything sharp or spooky.
