The film moves with an unhurried, sun-warmed confidence, letting the Mexican landscapes, the soft score, and the small moments between a battered old hand and a guarded kid do the heavy lifting. The problem is the storytelling is so plain and over-explained that the journey rarely feels tense or surprising, and several performances land a bit stiff, which drains momentum from what should be a dangerous trip. If you’re expecting a gritty thriller, sharp dialogue, or classic Eastwood crackle, this may feel sleepy and oddly weightless. Still, there’s a gentle, reflective tone and a few warm character moments that will work if you’re in the mood for something low-key and sentimental rather than exciting.
