The problem is the execution: the script leans hard on familiar mutiny-and-doomsday beats, the dialogue can feel stiff, and the editing doesn’t always build momentum, so the suspense comes in fits rather than a steady squeeze. The American accents and occasionally murky plotting make it harder to fully sink into the Soviet setting, and the ending choice may leave you feeling more deflated than haunted. If you’re mainly here for atmosphere, a few strong performances, and submarine hardware tension, it’s passable; if you want razor-sharp writing and relentless dread, you’ll probably wish you’d surfaced early.
