Wrong (2012)

Wrong is the kind of comedy-mystery that feels like it wandered in from a parallel universe and decided to stay, and that’s exactly its charm: it’s bold, absurdist, and strangely hypnotic in the way it keeps escalating its own logic. Following a man’s dead-serious quest to find his missing dog, the film turns everyday spaces into a stylized dreamscape of witty vignettes, where each encounter feels both hilarious and faintly unsettling. Quentin Dupieux directs with confident, clean visual flair, making the nonsense feel intentional and, somehow, addictive. It won’t click if you need realism or tidy answers, but if you enjoy surreal humor with a mystery spine and a mischievous sense of taste, this is a delightful little detour into the wonderfully wrong.

Wrong is clearly aiming for a deadpan, surreal mystery-comedy where the logic is dreamlike and the jokes come from how calmly everyone treats the absurd. If you need a plot that builds cleanly or humor that lands with obvious punchlines, this can feel meandering, oddly flat in delivery, and more silly than satisfying, to the point where the weirdness starts to wear out its welcome. The film also prioritizes quirky detours over emotional depth, so if you’re hoping the lost-dog premise leads somewhere heartfelt or meaningful, you may end up frustrated. That said, if you enjoy offbeat, “what am I watching?” cinema and can ride the confusion for its own sake, there are moments of dry charm and strange little ideas worth catching.
