Clip (2012)

Clip is the kind of film that feels less like a story being told than a life being caught on camera—raw, restless, and bracingly honest about how attention, desire, and despair can blur together in a place that offers few soft landings. Maja Miloš shoots with a nervous, contemporary energy that mirrors Jasna’s own phone-recorded world, pulling you into a haze of parties and performative bravado until the occasional flicker of tenderness lands with surprising force. Isidora Simijonović gives a fearless, painfully human performance that keeps the movie from ever feeling like mere provocation; it’s a portrait of a young woman trying to find control in a harsh environment, even when her choices scorch everything around her. This is not for everyone—its explicit sexuality and cruelty are intentionally hard to sit with—but if you can handle an uncompromising coming-of-age drama, it’s a vivid, stomach-knotting experience you won’t forget.

Clip is clearly trying to capture the numb, attention-starved chaos of a post-war Serbian teen world, using raw phone-video immediacy to make it feel unfiltered and current. The problem is that the film leans so hard on explicit sex, degradation, and cruelty that it can start to feel less like insight and more like endurance—bleak, repetitive, and emotionally hollow if you’re looking for character growth or catharsis. If you’re sensitive to graphic teen sexuality, bullying, or a relentlessly cheerless tone, this will likely feel punishing rather than enlightening. That said, it does have a committed lead performance and a grim authenticity that will land for viewers who want confrontational realism and don’t need the movie to “save” its protagonist.
