Catch.44 is a lean, nasty little midnight thriller that plays like a pressure cooker: three razor-edged women on a “simple” job, one all-night diner, and a sense that everyone in the room is lying through their teeth. Aaron Harvey keeps the vibe pulpy and claustrophobic, letting the tension thicken between bursts of sudden, bloody violence, while the cast sells the sweaty desperation—Malin Åkerman and Nikki Reed bring grit and snap, and Bruce Willis glides in with that cool, serpentine menace. It’s the kind of film that doesn’t ask you to admire its characters so much as to watch them collide, with sharp dialogue, grim humor, and a noir-ish fatalism that feels intentionally mean. Catch.44 is clearly trying to be a slick, Tarantino-ish bottle thriller: tough-talking criminals, a single-night standoff in a diner, and a twisty setup built around double-crosses.
