Werner Herzog brings his signature sense of awe to the desert vistas and the lonely, contemplative rhythm of travel, while Nicole Kidman gives Gertrude Bell a steady gravitas—part steel, part vulnerability—that makes her feel less like a legend and more like a living mind at work.
