Hot Blooded earns its title the old-fashioned way: with a simmering, street-level intensity that turns a port town into a pressure cooker and then watches the lid rattle. Cheon Myeong-kwan keeps the pace measured but never sleepy, letting tension accumulate in glances, loyalties, and quiet decisions until the surprise turns hit with blunt force. Jung Woo anchors it with a weary, lived-in performance that makes the violence feel consequential rather than flashy, while the supporting cast turns every conversation into a potential double-cross. It’s not for the squeamish given the strong content, but if you like crime thrillers that play smart, gritty, and relentlessly watchable, this one hooks you and doesn’t let go.

Hot Blooded wants to be a gritty, old-school Korean port-town gangster tragedy about a tired veteran trying to walk away before the life swallows him whole. The problem is it rarely rises above familiar mob-war beats, with long stretches of talky plotting followed by bursts of gunplay that can feel more routine than riveting. A lot of the characters read like genre pieces on a board rather than messy, believable people, and the film occasionally drifts close to parody when it leans too hard on tough-guy posturing. If you’re craving a fresh spin or emotional realism, this may disappoint, but if you’re fine with a straightforward crime yarn and a committed lead performance, it can still scratch that gritty thriller itch.
