I Want You (2012)

I Want You has that irresistible, sunlit Barcelona rush: a romantic drama that feels like speeding down a coastal road with your heart in your throat, equal parts yearning and adrenaline. Fernando González Molina leans into the push-pull of first love versus the possibility of something new, and the chemistry between Mario Casas, Clara Lago, and María Valverde makes every glance and argument feel charged with history. It’s glossy, emotional, and unapologetically melodramatic in the best way, with motorcycle-night energy on the outside and messy, tender bruises underneath. If you’re allergic to heightened romance and soap-operatic intensity (and plenty of Spanish swearing), it may be too much—but if you want a passionate, escapist love story that wears its feelings on its sleeve, this one delivers.

I Want You is aiming for glossy, high-heat romantic drama with fast bikes, big feelings, and a “can’t quit the past” love triangle that’s meant to feel intense and fated. The problem is it often confuses intensity with depth, leaning hard on melodrama, coincidence, and brooding rather than giving the characters enough growth to make the emotional swings truly land. If you’re allergic to possessive romance vibes, soap-opera complications, or protagonists who keep making the same messy choices, this may feel exhausting instead of swoony. That said, the Barcelona atmosphere, slick pacing, and committed performances (especially if you’re already invested in these characters) can make it an easy watch if you’re in the mood for stylish angst and Spanish-language romance with plenty of swearing.
