Killing Them Softly is trying to be a grimy, modern crime story with a sharp political bite, using the Mob as a stand-in for a broken economy. The catch is it’s more talk than action: long, deliberate scenes and heavy-handed commentary can make it feel slow, preachy, and oddly undercooked for something aiming to be this pointed. If you’re expecting a tight, propulsive thriller with satisfying payoffs, this may come off as disappointing and a bit derivative despite the stylish veneer.
