Plan B directs with a sharp eye for detail and a bold, stylized energy, weaving intersecting lives into a grimly compelling mosaic that’s as cinematic as it is uncomfortably real. The performances—especially Riz Ahmed—carry a raw, human immediacy that keeps the film from feeling like misery tourism; it’s tough, but it’s never lazy. Fair warning: the sex, drugs, and language are explicit and relentless, so it’s not for the faint of heart, but if you want a gritty crime drama with bite and purpose, this one lands.

Ill Manors is clearly aiming to be a hard-hitting, street-level mosaic of modern London, stitching together drugs, sex work, and poverty into a bleak chain reaction of consequences. The problem is that with so many interwoven threads, the film often skims across characters instead of letting you know them, so the misery can start to feel like a grim checklist rather than a story with real momentum. It’s raw and confrontational (and the content is as severe as the warnings suggest), but it doesn’t always have the narrative control or charisma to make that intensity feel earned.
