The Snowman (2017)

Michael Fassbender brings a bruised, compelling gravity to detective Harry Hole, and with Rebecca Ferguson and Charlotte Gainsbourg alongside him, the film has the kind of serious, adult casting that makes even the pulpiest turns feel grounded. It’s a slick slice of Scandinavian noir that leans into gruesome, memorable imagery and keeps the case moving with brisk, page-turner momentum. Fair warning: the story can get a bit far-fetched and the violence is stark, but if you’re on the fence and you want a chilly mystery with style, mood, and morbid thrills, this one goes down like a shot of something strong.

The Snowman is clearly aiming for bleak, classy Nordic-noir: a haunted detective, a serial killer with a signature, and a chilly atmosphere that should tighten into a smart mystery. The problem is it rarely clicks into place—scenes feel stitched together, the pacing lurches, and the investigation doesn’t build satisfying momentum, so you’re often watching talented actors try to sell confusion.
