Extracted (2012)
Thomas Jacobs invents a way to watch people's memories from the inside. Going against his morals, he accepts an offer to enter a heroin addict's memories to literally see if he committed a crime. However,a malfunction causes his consciousness to become trapped inside the criminal's mind. He remains a prisoner in the addict's memories for more than four years until he discovers the possibility of escape.
What people think about Extracted
Extracted takes a familiar sci-fi hook—entering someone else’s mind—and makes it feel unnervingly intimate, like a thriller that’s been wired directly into your nerves. Nir Paniry leans into the claustrophobia of fractured memories and moral compromise, letting the tension come not from flashy spectacle but from the creeping realization of what it means to be trapped in another person’s worst moments. Sasha Roiz anchors the film with a grounded, human performance that keeps the high concept emotionally legible, while the story keeps twisting in ways that reward your attention without turning into a puzzle-box gimmick. It’s clearly working in the shadow of bigger-budget mind-benders, but if you like lean, idea-driven sci-fi with a grim, noir-ish edge and a surprising streak of empathy, this one’s easy to recommend—just know it’s more moody and unsettling than crowd-pleasing.
Extracted is clearly aiming for a smart, paranoid sci‑fi thriller about memory, guilt, and the ethics of turning trauma into evidence, and the core idea is strong enough to hook you quickly. The problem is the execution doesn’t always match the ambition: it leans on familiar mind‑movie beats, the tension can feel more talky than gripping, and it never quite pushes its concepts as far or as weird as you might hope. If you want slick visuals, big twists, or Inception-level momentum, this will likely feel small, uneven, and a bit undercooked. But if you’re patient with indie-scale filmmaking and you mainly want a moody, thought-provoking premise carried by solid effort from the cast, it’s an okay one-night watch.
