Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion is the rare horror sequel that doesn’t just get louder—it gets richer, turning a crumbling Jakarta apartment complex into a living nightmare you can practically smell and hear through the walls. Joko Anwar directs with a confident, old-school command of dread, letting atmosphere and cultural texture do as much work as the shocks, so the jump scares land like punctuation rather than cheap tricks. When the film does unleash its horrors, the effects and corpse makeup are impressively tactile and nasty, grounded in artistry that makes the supernatural feel uncomfortably close. If you want subtle, slow-burn ambiguity, this may be too relentlessly malevolent for your tastes, but if you’re on the fence about modern horror that actually crafts a world and then traps you inside it, this is an easy yes.

Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion is clearly aiming for a bigger, more sprawling horror mystery than the first film, expanding the mythology and using the apartment setting to build a suffocating, communal dread. The problem is that the storytelling can feel overstuffed, so the tension sometimes gets diluted by detours and exposition instead of tightening the screws. It’s also a slower burn than its predecessor, and when the movie leans on CGI, a few effects undercut what should be gut-level scares. If you want a lean, relentlessly scary sequel, you may leave impatient—but if you’re into atmosphere, world-building, and creeping unease over constant jolts, there’s still plenty here to justify the watch.
