Love and Distrust (2010)

Love & Distrust is special because it treats romance less like a single sweeping story and more like a prism—five short films that catch desire in different light, from tender longing to the damage we do when we can’t quite tell love from need. The anthology format keeps it brisk and unpredictable, letting each segment land with its own mood and texture, whether it’s wistful and moonlit, quietly observational, or sharply unsettling, with a young Robert Pattinson bringing raw, restless energy to “The Summer House.” It’s the kind of film that lingers not because it ties everything up, but because it dares to sit with messy emotions and the consequences people try to outrun. Fair warning: it’s uneven by nature and includes some very dark, adult material, but if you’re in the mood for romance that’s honest about its shadows, this is a compelling, human watch.

If you’re here mainly for Robert Pattinson or recognizable names, manage expectations: it’s more a grab-bag of small stories than a star-driven feature, though a couple of performances and moments do land when the writing keeps things grounded.
