Turn Me On, Dammit! (2011)

Turn Me On, Dammit! is that rare coming-of-age film that speaks about teenage desire with a straight face and a warm heart, finding comedy not in cheap jokes but in the sheer, mortifying intensity of being 15. Set in a sleepy Norwegian town, it follows Alma’s unruly imagination and real-life consequences with a gentle deadpan touch, anchored by Helene Bergsholm’s wonderfully natural performance—she makes Alma funny, complicated, and achingly human all at once. The sexual content is central and explicit in topic (including masturbation and phone sex) despite the understated presentation, so if you’re not comfortable watching a story that stays closely inside a 15-year-old’s hormonal headspace, this will be a hard pass. If you like low-key, realistic European dramas with a few sharp observations and a strong lead performance, it’s worth a look; if you want momentum, catharsis, or clear-cut resolution, it may feel slight.
