Titanic II (2010)

Titanic II is the kind of audacious, pulpy disaster thriller that knows exactly what it is: a high-concept “what if” ride that turns a familiar legend into a brisk, modern survival scenario. The movie’s pleasures come less from grandeur and more from momentum—tsunami-driven chaos, hard choices in tight corridors, and the steady escalation of peril that keeps you leaning forward. Bruce Davison brings a grounded, watchable seriousness as the Coast Guard captain, giving the film a human anchor while the rest of the cast commits to the mayhem with earnest energy. It won’t satisfy anyone looking for the sweeping romance or prestige sheen of the 1997 classic, but if you’re in the mood for a scrappy, surprisingly engaging B-movie catastrophe, it delivers the guilty-fun rush.

Titanic II is clearly trying to cash in on the iconography of the original while delivering a modern, tsunami-and-iceberg disaster ride with a side of romance. The problem is it looks and feels like a bargain-bin imitation: the effects are rough, the tension rarely builds, and the script leans hard on familiar disaster clichés without the wit or scale to make them fun.
