Bloodshot (2020)

Bloodshot is the kind of slick, hard-charging sci-fi action movie that knows exactly what it wants to be: a pulpy, high-concept revenge ride powered by Vin Diesel’s granite-jawed intensity and a genuinely fun “what if your body could reboot?” premise. Director Dave Wilson, coming from a visual-effects background, stages the mayhem with a clean, kinetic punch—bullets, broken bones, and glossy tech flourishes all moving at a brisk pace that rarely lets the adrenaline dip. Beneath the noise there’s a surprisingly playful edge to the identity-and-memory angle, giving the film just enough intrigue to keep you leaning forward between set pieces. It’s not for viewers who want subtle drama or who are squeamish about PG-13 violence pushed to its limit, but if you’re on the fence and craving a fast, entertaining, unapologetically old-school action fix with a sci-fi sheen, this one delivers.

Bloodshot is clearly trying to be a slick, comic-book-style revenge thriller with a high-concept sci‑fi hook and Vin Diesel bulldozing through set pieces like a one-man wrecking crew. The problem is it often feels like a greatest-hits mixtape of better “memory manipulation + super-soldier” movies, with thin characterization and a lot of noisy action that’s more blunt-force than genuinely thrilling. Diesel is serviceable in “stoic tank” mode, but if you need emotional weight, sharp dialogue, or a protagonist with real layers, this will likely feel flat and overcooked. That said, if you’re happy with a straightforward, gory-for-PG-13 action ride and don’t mind a familiar plot as long as things explode regularly, it does deliver that reliably.
