Ronal the Barbarian (2011)

20111h 29mRAnimationAdventureFantasy

Ronal is a young barbarian with low self-esteem, the polar opposite of all the muscular barbarians in his village. He's a real wuss. However, as fate would have it, responsibility for the tribe's survival falls on Ronal's scrawny shoulders, when the evil Lord Volcazar raids the village and abducts every living barbarian with the exception of Ronal, who is forced to go on a perilous quest to save his enslaved clan and thwart Volcazar’s plot to rule the world.

Explained

What people think about Ronal the Barbarian

Ronal the Barbarian is a gleefully irreverent animated fantasy that takes the muscle-bound myths of sword-and-sorcery and punctures them with a surprisingly sweet underdog heart. Its secret weapon is tone: part raunchy, part heroic, and consistently playful, with colorful visuals and a party of misfit companions who banter their way through danger like a D&D campaign that’s had one too many ales. Ronal himself is an endearing twist on the genre’s usual granite-jawed hero, and the movie finds real charm in watching courage grow out of insecurity without ever getting preachy. Fair warning: the humor leans very crude and knowingly juvenile at times, so it’s not for everyone—but if you like your fantasy adventures funny, fast, and a little shameless, this one’s a blast.
