Turtles Forever (2009)

Turtles Forever is the kind of joyous crossover that actually earns its fan-service, treating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ many eras like a celebration rather than a gimmick. It zips along with breezy, pizza-fueled humor and Saturday-morning energy, then surprises you with sharper stakes and sci-fi imagination as the multiverse opens up and the action gets bigger, bolder, and cleverly self-aware. The animation keeps things punchy, the teamwork banter lands, and the whole movie feels like a love letter to what makes each incarnation of the Turtles distinct without turning into an inside-joke marathon. If you want gritty realism, this isn’t that—but if you’re on the fence and even a little fond of the heroes in a half shell, it’s an easy, crowd-pleasing ride that knows exactly why you came.

Turtles Forever is clearly trying to be a love letter to TMNT history, smashing the 1987 and 2003 versions together in a multiverse adventure that’s packed with callbacks and fan-service. When it works, it’s genuinely fun seeing the clashing tones and personalities bounce off each other, and the pace rarely drags. The catch is that it can feel more like a continuity flex than a satisfying standalone story, with humor that leans very kid-friendly and action that stays safely “Saturday morning” even when the stakes sound huge. If you’re not already invested in at least one of these Turtle eras—or you want a deep, emotionally rich TMNT film—this may come off as noisy, thin, and a bit self-congratulatory rather than truly gripping.
