Eraser: Reborn (2022)
U.S. Marshal Mason Pollard specializes in “erasing” people – faking the deaths of high-risk witnesses. With the technological advances of the last 25 years, the game has upgraded, and it’s just another day at the office when he’s assigned to Rina Kimura, a crime boss’ wife who’s decided to turn state’s evidence. As the two flee to Cape Town, South Africa, Pollard discovers he’s been set up and will need to be at the top of his game, or he’ll be the one who’s erased.
What people think about Eraser: Reborn
Eraser: Reborn is the kind of lean, modern action-thriller that knows exactly what it wants to be: a high-speed cat-and-mouse chase where identity is a weapon and “disappearing” is a craft updated for the digital age. Dominic Sherwood brings a grounded, workmanlike intensity to Mason Pollard, while Jacky Lai gives the story a sharp edge of urgency and resolve, and Cape Town’s slick, sunlit backdrops add a fresh, international pulse to the danger. The vibe is brisk and punchy—more about momentum, close calls, and double-crosses than deep mythology—so it plays best if you’re in the mood for a straightforward, adrenaline-forward ride. If you’re expecting the bigger-than-life swagger of ’90s action, this is a smaller, tighter reboot, but as a one-sitting thriller with modern teeth, it delivers.
Eraser: Reborn is clearly trying to revive a slick, on-the-run witness-protection thriller with modern tech, exotic locations, and a steady stream of shootouts. The problem is it often plays like a bargain-bin reboot: familiar twists, thin character work, and action that’s more functional than exciting, so the tension rarely earns its big moments. If you’re expecting the punchy charisma and standout set pieces of a top-tier studio thriller, this will feel like a direct-to-streaming time-filler. But if you just want a straightforward, easy-to-follow chase movie with a few solid fights and a Cape Town backdrop, it does enough to coast by.
