Welcome to the South is clearly aiming for a warm, crowd-pleasing culture-clash comedy, using a Northern Italian everyman’s “punishment transfer” to poke fun at prejudices and then soften them with heart. The problem is it often settles for broad stereotypes and a very predictable arc, so the laughs can feel pre-packaged and the sentimentality a bit forced rather than earned. If you’re hoping for sharp satire or fresh comedy, this may come off like a safe, flatter remix of its French inspiration.
