No Limit (2022)

No Limit is the kind of romantic drama that feels like a dare: gorgeous, hypnotic, and quietly terrifying in the way it turns the ocean into both a sanctuary and a threat. David M. Rosenthal leans hard into the sensual, sun-drenched pull of the South of France and then plunges you into freediving sequences so tense and elegantly shot you can almost feel your lungs bargaining for air. Camille Rowe and Sofiane Zermani give the film its magnetic charge, selling a love story that’s intoxicating on the surface and increasingly bruising underneath, without ever tipping into melodrama. It’s not for everyone—there’s frank sexuality and a deliberately dark, controlling dynamic at its core—but if you’re drawn to atmospheric thrill, striking underwater visuals, and romance with real bite, this one will pull you under and keep you there.

No Limit is clearly aiming for a seductive, high-risk romance set against the hypnotic, pressure-cooker world of freediving, and on a surface level it delivers some striking underwater imagery and a moody, sun-soaked atmosphere. The problem is that the story often confuses intensity with depth: the relationship turns toxic and controlling, but the writing doesn’t always give the characters enough inner life to make the emotional spiral feel earned rather than repetitive. It’s also longer and slower than the material can really sustain, so you may find yourself admiring the visuals while waiting for the drama to land. If you’re into dark, sensual romances with explicit sex scenes and a vibe-first approach, you might be on board; if you need sharp character work, believable motivation, and tighter pacing, this will likely feel hollow.
