Consecration is the kind of horror-thriller that earns its chills with mood, craft, and a sense of place you can practically feel in your bones: the Isle of Skye’s wind-bitten beauty and the convent’s hush become part of the dread. Christopher Smith directs with a steady, confident hand, letting striking religious imagery and tactile locations do the unsettling work while the mystery tightens like a noose. At the center, Jena Malone gives Grace a fierce, wounded intelligence that keeps you leaning in even when the film slips into the uncanny. It’s also bluntly violent at points and steeped in sacrilege and grief, so it won’t be for everyone—but if you like your scares atmospheric, your questions thorny, and your visuals memorable, this one’s worth the trip.

Consecration is clearly aiming for a moody, faith-vs-trauma mystery wrapped in convent-gothic horror, with Jena Malone doing solid work selling Grace’s grief and suspicion. The problem is it plays like it’s constantly stalling for a big reveal: the pacing drifts, the scares are more muted than punchy, and the script keeps piling on threads that don’t always click into something satisfying. If you need clean rules, coherent mythology, and a steady build of tension, this may feel hazy and frustrating rather than eerie.
