Horst Schlämmer - Isch kandidiere! (2009)

20091h 36mComedy

So far he has earned his living as deputy editor-in-chief at the Grevenbroicher Tagblatt, but actually Horst Schlämmer had always guessed: he was destined for something bigger - too much bigger. Without further ado, he therefore quits his old job, founds his very own party and thus starts his rush to the chancellor's office. While the election machinery is quickly started and soon picks up speed, only two questions remain unanswered: Is Horst Schlämmer ready for Germany? And is Germany ready for him?

Explained

What people think about Horst Schlämmer - Isch kandidiere!

Horst Schlämmer - Isch kandidiere! is the kind of comedy that lives or dies on its central creation—and here, Hape Kerkeling’s Horst is so vividly observed, so confidently performed, that you can’t help leaning in as this absurd would-be statesman barges into the political arena. The film plays like a cheeky campaign stunt that somehow became a feature, mixing broad laughs with pointed satire about image-making, media spin, and how easily “serious” politics can turn into spectacle. Its biggest pleasure is watching a fully formed character weaponize charm, cluelessness, and audacity, while the movie winks at the real-world climate it’s parodying. If you want sharp, polished storytelling you may find it uneven, but if you’re in the mood for character-driven satire that feels plugged into its moment, it’s an entertaining ride.
