Hell’s Garden is a deliriously inspired idea executed with real gusto: it takes the petty politics of office life and cranks them into an all-out action-comedy brawl, as if workplace cliques were literal warlords and the break room were an arena. Director Kazuaki Seki keeps the pace punchy and the tone knowingly over-the-top, letting the satire land even as the fights go big, loud, and joyfully ridiculous. Mei Nagano anchors the madness with a straight-faced charm that makes the absurdity funnier, while Alice Hirose and Nanao bring the kind of larger-than-life presence this heightened world demands. If you want grounded realism, look elsewhere—but if you’re in the mood for energetic chaos with a wink and a surprisingly sharp take on corporate pecking orders, this one’s an easy yes.

Hell’s Garden wants to be a gleefully ridiculous office-lady battle anime brought to life, turning workplace politics into full-on action-comedy with a straight face. When it clicks, the fights are energetic, the cast commits hard, and the sheer audacity of the premise can be genuinely funny. But the tone is aggressively absurd and very Japan-pop-culture-parody specific, so if you’re not already on that wavelength it can feel like you’re watching an inside joke you weren’t invited to. It also leans into gendered stereotypes in ways that may read as satire to some and just questionable to others, so if you’re looking for sharp social commentary or grounded comedy, this probably isn’t your garden.
